BUILT TO HANDLE COMPLEXITY
Inter-mediatE provides the critical functions of convergent mediation:

• Using plug-ins as collection agents, the Data Acquisition Portal captures data from any network � fixed, mobile, or IP.
• The Business Processing Framework provides an environment where both basic and complex business rules can be implemented.
• The Data Distribution Portal also uses plug-ins to move data throughout the business. Inter-mediatE distributes the functions of complex mediation through a series of software managers.

Basic processing rules are handled by the Business Logic Manager while more complex requirements are handled by dedicated software subsystems. For example, duplicate data and partial events are a problem for IP/2.5G/3G Service Providers. Inter-mediatE uses the Duplicate Manager and the Correlation Manager to assemble this data into high-quality records, even in high volume environments. NGNode, a major component of Smart Distribution, is a software element that mediates network events from IP, 2.5G, and 3G networks. The NGNode executes on a small, dedicated server close to the network elements. It collects network events, performs pre-mediation and delivers the processed data to the centralized Inter-mediatE platform.

The arrival of broadband wireless services has massively increased the burden on mediation platforms in 2.5G and 3G networks. Data acquisition from many different network elements, and large volumes of information, are just two of the problems. Scalable applications are critical. Using Smart Distribution, Inter-mediatE has been benchmarked processing 12 billion network events in 10 hours on a single HP Superdome server. Inter-mediatE is not tied to any single billing model. Instead, the most flexible approach possible has been taken allowing complete flexibility to implement the business rules required to support virtually any future billing model.
